49ers bench Colin Kaepernick for Blaine Gabbert

More changes are coming for the San Francisco 49ers.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be benched against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, USA TODAY Sports learned from a person familiar with the situation. The person wasn't authorized to speak because the team has yet to announce the decision publicly.
Backup Blaine Gabbert will take over as starter.
Earlier on Monday, 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said the team was "evaluating everyone" when asked about Kaepernick's standing.
Kaepernick's tenure with the 49ers has taken a nosedive since he signed a six-year extension in 2014. In his fifth season in San Francisco, the signal-caller has thrown for 1,615 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions while piloting the team to a 2-6 start. The terms of his contract give the 49ers the flexibility to cut ties after the season.
Gabbert hasn't made a start since the 2013 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, in which he gave way to Chad Henne as the leading signal-caller. The former No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft has a 23:24 career touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The move is just the latest in the 49ers' overhaul. The team also traded tight endVernon Davis to the Denver Broncos on Monday.
A rash of injuries have derailed added to San Francisco's offensive woes, with leading rusher Carlos Hyde and receiver Anquan Boldin both missing time. After totaling just nine points and 331 yards in their past two games, the Niners have fallen to last in the league in both scoring and total offense.
